Vol. 329 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin New Garda Station.

13.

asked the Minister for Justice when the new Garda station will be provided in Ballybrack, County Dublin.

The position is that a manpower deployment study team consisting of representatives from the Garda Síochána and the Department of the Public Service have recently completed an examination of how the most effective Garda service can be provided for all the developing areas of Dublin city and county. The team's recommendations have not yet been finally evaluated by the Garda authorities and no decision has yet been taken in regard to the provision of a new station in Ballybrack. I intend to consider the study team's recommendations and the views of the Garda authorities on them as soon as possible after the matter comes to me for decision.

I am not trying to take advantage of the hard work which Deputy Cosgrave has done in the last four weeks in this matter. When does the Minister expect a decision in this matter, which is one of serious concern to the people of Ballybrack? Indeed, he might have a look at the Garda station for Shankill at the same time. Could the Minister assist me?

Mr. Mitchell

I wish to make it clear that there is no question of having two Garda stations in this area. It would be my intention to consult with the Deputies for the area as to which they, and the local population, would prefer. Indeed, I would be greatful for Deputy Andrews's advice.
