Vol. 329 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

6.

(Dublin North West) asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not been paid from January 1981 to date to a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

The person concerned was not entitled to unemployment benefit from 13 January 1981 to 19 March 1981 as her claim was disallowed by a deciding officer on the grounds that she was not available for work. She appealed against the disallowance but an appeals officer upheld the disqualification of her claim.

The person concerned again claimed unemployment benefit on 14 April 1981 but her claim was disallowed as the deciding officer was not satisfied that she was available for work. She appealed against the decision and her case has been referred to an appeals officer for determination.

An oral hearing of her case has been arranged and it will take place shortly. She will be advised of the appeals officer's decision as soon as the outcome is known.

7.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she will arrange for the immediate payment of unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Galway who has been signing for the past sixteen weeks.

The claim of the person concerned to unemployment benefit was disallowed by a deciding officer on 25 February 1981 on the grounds that she was no longer available for work. She appealed against the disqualification but an appeals officer upheld the disallowance on 22 April 1981.

The person concerned again claimed unemployment benefit on 19 May 1981 and as she satisfied a deciding officer that she is now available for work, her claim has been allowed with effect from that date.

An order paying all arrears of unempoyment benefit due has issued to her for encashment at her local post office.
