Vol. 329 No. 7

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps being taken to acquire financial assistance from the EEC to combat coastal erosion; and, if no steps have already been taken, if it is his intention to seek such aid.

While assistance might be obtainable from the European Regional Development Fund in the form of a refund of part of the Government's expenditure on measures to combat coastal erosion, such assistance has not been sought in the past because sufficient other projects of the type normally approved were available each year to utilise the country's full quota under the fund.

The possibility of submitting a coastal erosion project next year will be considered when the amount of Government expenditure on coastal erosion works in the year has been settled.
