Vol. 329 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Castle Restoration.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance having regard to the fact that de Courcy Castle at Kinsale, County Cork, has been declared a national monument and that it is now in a condition which is dangerous to the public and that it is likely to continue to deteriorate beyond meaningful preservation, if he will have all necessary steps taken as a matter of urgency to have it rendered safe and restored.

The Commissioners of Public Works are aware of the condition of de Courcy Castle, Kinsale, and of the need to have measures taken to prevent its further deterioration.

The commissioners do not own the monument but they are prepared to take it into their care under the National Monuments Acts and to carry out whatever works are necessary to make it safe and to ensure its preservation. They are pursuing enquiries with a view to having the monument vested in them.
