There is no record of an application from the person named. An application has now been recorded and it is expected that service can be provided in about a year's time when necessary cabling work is carried out.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the outstanding work that remains to be completed at the Ballyboden Telephone Exchange, South Dublin; the date the work will be completed; and the number of telephone applicants that will be provided with service following the completion of the work.

The exchange equipment contractor has completed his installation work. The work remaining to be done consists of acceptance testing of the exchange and other commissioning work such as interconnecting the exchange with the underground cable network. Assuming no unforeseen problems arise all the works concerned should be completed within three months.

About 550 applicants will be offered service following the opening of the exchange. Further clearances of waiting applicants in the area will take place on a progressive basis according as cabling to meet the applications of individual subscribers is completed.

Service will be provided shortly for 11 applicants. Provision of service for the remaining applicants must await development of the estate by the estate developer to enable cables to be distributed to each site.

Six of the 50 applicants have been awaiting telephone service for about five years. Service will be provided for all applicants in the estate about the end of this year or early next year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephone applicants at present awaiting telephone service in the Dublin South Constituency; and the number of applicants who have been waiting for more than (a) one year, (b) two years, (c) three years, (d) four years and (e) five years or more.

The approximate figures are:—5,000; (a) 1,200; (b) 900; (c) 700; (d) 280; (e) 80. These figures are in respect of the numbers of waiting applicants at telephone exchanges within the constituency boundary which do not precisely coincide with the exchange area boundaries.
