451.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry how much timber is being taken from forests in the Border counties; where the timber goes; and the current selling price per unit which is being obtained by his Department.

Cavan-Monaghan): In 1980 a total of approximately 107,000m³ of timber was sold from State forests in Border counties. Sales for this year up to the end of August amounted to some 58,000m³. Half of the said material was purchased by Irish sawmills and the balance by firms from Northern Ireland. The prices obtained for this timber (standing) ranged from £1.50 per m³ for thinnings to £22.50 per m³ for sawlog.
