Vol. 330 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wexford Coast Erosion.

487.

asked the Minister for Finance when his Department intend to carry out protection works to alleviate the very serious coastal erosion at present occurring at Rosslare Strand, County Wexford.

Coast protection works were carried out at Rosslare Strand by the Office of Public Works between 1957 and 1965 and are being maintained by that office. An adequate supply of sand to nourish the beach is essential if the protection works are to be properly maintained. Following the execution of improvement works in the harbour the natural supply of sand diminished and difficulty has arisen in supplementing the supply. The matter is the subject of current discussions between the Department of Transport, CIE who manage the harbour and Wexford County Council.
