asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the order for equipment for the new telephone exchanges for servicing the Crumlin /Walkinstown/Drimnagh area of Dublin was placed by his Department; when the orders were placed for the mobile exchanges for the same areas; and when the (a) mobile and (b) permanent exchanges will come on stream.

An order for one of the mobile exchanges to be used in the area concerned was arranged in September 1980; two other mobile units to service this area will be diverted from centres where they are at present in use when no longer required at those centres. Two mobile units are expected to be in service early next year and a third one in the second half of next year.

The permanent relief exchange for the area has not yet been ordered; the order will be arranged so that installation can begin as soon as the building is completed. The placing of a contract for the building is dependent on completion of the legal formalities for the acquisition of the site. The current assessment is that the permanent exchange will be available about the end of 1983.
