Vol. 330 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Council for Educational Awards.

547.

asked the Minister for Education if it is his intention to nominate a national student representative to the vacant student place on the National Council for Educational Awards.

The views put to me by the Union of Students in Ireland will be considered by me in connection with my recommendation to the Government for the filling of the vacancy on the National Council for Educational Awards which arose by virtue of the expiry of the term of office as a member of the Council of the President of the Students' Union of the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick.

548.

asked the Minister for Education if it is his intention to change, or in any way alter, the relationships at present that exist between designated colleges and the National Council for Educational Awards.

The functions and role of the National Council for Educational Awards is prescribed in the National Council for Education Awards Act, 1979. Pending further experience of the operation of the council, I do not consider that amendments to the Act should be considered at this stage.
