Vol. 330 No. 1

Written Answers. - Post-Graduate Payments.

554.

asked the Minister for Education why, in view of the fact that post-graduate students work a 52 week year and are often used as cheap labour by colleges, no scheme has been introduced to remunerate them adequately.

Post-graduate students who are in receipt of maintenance allowances for training in research in pure science and engineering are, under the terms of the scheme, permitted to undertake demonstrating or other teaching work for not more than six hours per week and the rate of remuneration for the work is prescribed as the normal rate obtaining in the university or college. The Minister for Education has no function in relation to the internal administration of university colleges.
