Vol. 330 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Established Civil Servants.

10.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of non-established civil servants appointed in his Department since 30 June 1981; and if he will give their names, terms of appointment, duties and rate of remuneration in each case.

Since 30 June 1981 three officers were assigned in an unestablished capacity as clerical assistants to my Department. Two were recruited from a special competition confined to disabled persons and in the case of the other appointment there is a health problem. The appointments are temporary and may be terminated at any time in accordance with the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973. Their duties are those of clerical assistants in the sections of my Department to which they were assigned. Their remuneration is £78.50 a week. If the Deputy wishes I shall let him have the names of the officers concerned, but I do not think it would be correct to read them out in the House.

Yes. I would not regard those appointments as non-established in the true sense. After listening to the reply to the question addressed to the Minister for Industry and Energy, I can say that this Minister's dependence on the civil service is greater and I am glad to see that.
