In accordance with the provisions of the Treaty of Rome, the Calved Heifer Subsidy Scheme set out in the Programme for Government 1981-1986 has been notified to the EEC as a State aid and has been the subject of correspondence and discussions with the Commission in Brussels over the past three months. It is hoped that these discussions will be brought to a conclusion in the very near future, and a formal announcement will then be made.
