Vol. 330 No. 10

Written Answers. - Galway City Multi-Channel TV.

194.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the manner in which the contract for the provision of multi-channel service in Galway city was awarded to a particular company (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A contract has not been awarded to the company in question but a letter of intent to grant the exclusive licence for the provision of a multi-channel cable television service in Galway city has been issued to the company, subject to their fulfilling certain conditions within a specified time.

Three applications were received following a public competition organised by my Department. One of the applicants submitted no details of their proposal and indicated that they would be interested in providing service only on a basis which did not conform with the terms and conditions of the competition. Following careful consideration, the company in question were selected as the more suitable of the other two applicants and a letter of intent to issue the exclusive licence to them was issued accordingly.
