Vol. 330 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Crime.

621.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the large number of house break-ins and other crimes in the Dún Laoghaire area; and, if so, if he will increase the number of gardaí in this constituency.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the upward trend in the incidence of house burglaries and other crimes in the Dún Laoghaire area this year has been of particular concern and special measures have been taken to deal with the situation through the use of additional patrols and the services of the crime task force which is based at Dublin Castle and is called out to supplement the local policing arrange- ments in any area of the DMA as the need arises.

The strength of the detective branch serving the Dún Laoghaire area, which includes the six stations at Dún Laoghaire, Dalkey, Kill-O-Grange, Blackrock, Cabinteely and Shankill, was increased by three detective gardaí last month and three new recruit gardaí are being assigned to the area this week.
