Vol. 330 No. 12

Written Answers. - Westmeath Tax Refund Claim.

541.

asked the Minister for Finance why a tax refund was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is a part-time employee of the Office of Public Works and who submitted all the relevant documents in support of his claim.

The taxpayer was unemployed between 21 November 1980 and 9 March 1981, but, in that period, did not supply details to his inspector of taxes to enable any refund of tax due to him on the grounds of unemployment to be made.

The inspector later wrote to the taxpayer asking him to forward full particulars of his pay, and the tax deducted therefrom, in the year ended 5 April 1981. There was no response by the taxpayer but the required details have now been obtained by the inspector of taxes from his employer (the Office of Public Works). This has enabled the inspector to review the 1980-81 liability.

The figures show that a sum of £193.44 is refundable to the taxpayer and a cheque in settlement will be issued at an early date.
