Vol. 330 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Galway School Transport.

597.

asked the Minister for Education if he will provide transport to Cornamona national school, Clonbur, County Galway for ten children from Crumlin, Ballintubber and Ballydolagh.

Under the terms of the free transport scheme, it is necessary, before a special service may be established to a national school, that a minimum of ten eligible pupils in a distinct locality be available for transport. Unfortunately only seven eligible pupils are offering in the areas referred to by the Deputy; furthermore, even their homes are not located in a distinct locality. However, if the Deputy has information indicating that there are in fact the necessary number of eligible children in the area, I would be pleased to make a service available.

598.

asked the Minister for Education when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be provided with a school bus ticket.

This pupil resides in the catchment area of Spiddal-Inverin and transport is available to that centre. It is not possible at present to accommodate the pupil on the service to the Galway centre, as all the existing accommodation is already taken up.

599.

asked the Minister for Education when a school bus ticket will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

This pupil is not eligible for free transport because she is over ten years of age and resides less than three miles from the school which she attends. However, should she wish to avail of concessionary fare-paying facilities, prompt application should be made to the local CIE office at Galway which issues such travel permits.
