Vol. 331 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dungarvan (Co. Waterford) Manpower Office.

12.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange to have the National Manpower Office in Dungarvan, County Waterford manned on a five-day week basis in view of the difficult employment situation in mid and west Waterford.

I am satisfied that the business of this office can be effectively done on the basis of the two-day week opening. This ensures that staff in the south east region of the service are employed to maximum advantage.

Manning levels are kept under review and should the volume of business arising at Dungarvan require additional attendance, I shall so arrange.

Is the Minister aware that the two-day week in operation at this office is causing grave dissatisfaction in Dungarvan and West Waterford generally? Is he further aware that it is obvious to the staff and everybody concerned with the National Manpower Service that a five-day week is necessary? Would the Minister review the present situation and consult the staff directly involved?

As I said in my reply, if the volume requires it, it will be reviewed.
