Vol. 331 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Transport Authority.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport if he intends to establish a national transport authority; and, if so, the action he has taken in this regard.

I have no proposals at present to establish a national transport authority.

Would the Minister accept that this is another commitment in his party's election programme that is not going to be fulfilled either?

The Deputy should have listened to my reply. I have no proposals at present to establish a national transport authority. The Deputy must be well aware that the Government were left sufficient business by their predecessors to occupy their time fully before they could get into the implementation of specific items such as that.

Would the Minister accept that all this work he talks about was well and truly advanced for him and that this is an item that the Members opposite introduced into their election programme? If they have any intention of ever doing it, the time to do it is now when they are into the whole area of sorting out transport in relation to Dublin and the rest of the country. Obviously they have no intention of doing it. It was just another throw-away at election time.

This is a speech.
