637.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason payment in respect of land purchased by his Department has not been made to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

Cavan-Monaghan): I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 636 and 637 together.

In so far as a proposed purchase by my Department of these small properties is concerned, the two transactions are interdependent. This was clearly specified in the individual agreements for sale signed by the landowners in question. However, it subsequently transpired that one of the properties had become the subject of a sale contract with a third party. In the circumstances, my Department do not propose to take any further action regarding the purchase of either property — at any rate until the position in relation to the third party contract has been clarified.
