Vol. 331 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

665.

asked the Minister for Education if he will as a matter of urgency provide free school transport facilities for children who attend the second level division of St. Mary's school for deaf children in Cabra, Dublin.

My Department provide a comprehensive free school transport service for pupils attending the post-primary section of St. Mary's Special School for Hearing Impaired Children, Cabra, Dublin 7. In general, day pupils in the post-primary sector of the school are provided with free passes for use on public services. In certain circumstances, where the public services do not offer a satisfactory solution of the pupils' transport needs, my Department sanction the provision of special school transport services for these children.

A special transport service catering for eight children living on the south side of Dublin city came into operation from Monday, 23 November 1981.

A special transport service to cater for four children living on the north side of Dublin city will come into operation in the very near future.
