Vol. 331 No. 7

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

658.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the North Cork County Council Housing and Sanitary Committee will receive notification of approval for the housing schemes at Doneraile, Castletownroche, County Cork.

Under devolved procedures local authorities may build schemes of 60 houses or less without my prior approval provided that the layout and unit cost had been agreed. I understand that work has commenced on a ten house scheme at Castletownroche and the ten house scheme at Doneraile is expected to start shortly.

659.

asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number of applicants for housing loans to Galway County Council in 1979 and 1980 and in 1981 to date; (b) the number of applicants who were single people; (c) the number of single people who have been refused a housing loan since July last; and (d) the number of applications on which no decision has yet been made.

The numbers of applicants to Galway County Council in 1979, 1980 and 1981 (to 30 September) for housing loans were 453; 623 and 304 respectively.

I understand from Galway County Council that information is not readily available about either the number of these applicants who were single people or the number of single people who have been refused a housing loan since July last. I also understand from Galway County Council that the number of applications on which no decision has yet been made is 94.
