(Wexford) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider reducing the installation costs for telephones for old age pensioners because in many cases they cannot afford the installation fee of £140.00.

Any question of extending the scope of the existing scheme for subsidising the provision of telephone service for old age pensioners would be a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare to consider.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is proposed to open officially the new automatic exchange in Kells, County Meath.

The automatic exchange at Kells will be brought into service on 9 December 1981. The official opening will take place next month but the date has not yet been decided.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether his Department has any proposals for the provision of a public telephone kiosk at Meenglass, Ballybofey, County Donegal.

The provision of a kiosk at this location is not regarded as warranted at present and it is not proposed therefore to provide one there.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is proposed to erect a telephone kiosk at Derryare, Creeslough, County Donegal.

It is expected that it will be provided during 1982.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is proposed to erect a public telephone at Knockfola, County Donegal.

The provision of a kiosk at this location is not regarded as warranted at present and it is not proposed therefore to provide one there.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a public telephone kiosk will be erected at the urban district council housing estate at Kennel Hill, Mallow, County Cork.

It is planned to provide a telephone kiosk at Kennel Hill. There are however over 800 kiosks included in the current programme for provision of kiosks throughout the country and it may be some considerable time before the kiosk in question can be provided.

The standard charges (connection fee of £160 and one year's rental at £82.40) were quoted to this applicant. The applicant did not claim eligibility under the Department of Social Welfare telephone rental subsidy scheme. If he wishes to avail of this subsidy he should apply to that Department for approval.
