Vol. 331 No. 10

Written Answers. - Grant Applications.

643.

asked the Minister for the Environment the length of time between the date on which an application for a home improvement grant is made, and when the inspector calls to give approval as it is a source of worry to many applicants who have to wait for many weeks before an inspector calls on them.

As the time lag between the receipt of an application under the new scheme of house improvement grants and inspection varies from case to case it is not possible to indicate how long it will take to arrange an inspection in any particular case. This scheme was introduced on 14 October 1981, and it is too early as yet to give a reliable indication as to the average time lag involved. However, I do not anticipate any undue delay in arranging inspections under this scheme but the time taken will, of course, be affected by the level of activity under the scheme and the need to arrange inspectors' itineraries on an economic basis.
