asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the approximate loss in each of the last five years incurred by Bord na Móna on agricultural experiments; the cost of developing cut-away bogs over the same period; and the grant-in-aid paid to Bord na Móna for these activities.

I have been informed by Bord na Móna that the overall net cost incurred by the board on experimental agricultural operations and the cost of development operations on cutaway bog in each of the last five years was as follows:—

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the approximate maximum number of employees in Bord na Móna in September 1981 including (a) the approximate number appearing to be entitled to vote in the worker director elections 1981 and (b) the number of other workers; and the approximate number of (a) non-craftsmen, (b) craftsmen, (c) manual supervisory grades, (d) clerical grades, (e) other managerial grades, (f) technical grades, and (g) others employed in the peak period 1981, and the total number employed in this period.

I have been informed by Bord na Móna that the maximum number of employees in the board in September 1981 was 6,999 including 5,077 who were eligible to vote in the Worker Director Elections, 1981 and 1,922 other workers.

The peak employment in 1981 occurred during week-ended 29 July. The number employed in that week was 7,126, as follows:—
