Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Potato Grading.

169.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the action his Department are taking to apply the present grading system to the domestic potato market.

Inspectors of my Department carry out inspections of potatoes on a continuing basis at wholesale and retail points of sale to enable that the grading and other standards laid down in the Food Standards (Potatoes) Regulation, 1977, are observed. Legal proceedings are instituted where the regulations are contravened. An extensive publicity campaign aimed at bringing the grading system to the notice of consumers is also carried out by my Department.

Question No. 170 postponed.
