Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Payments to Banks.

323.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the total amount of (a) IDA and (b) other State or EEC grants including FEOGA grants paid to all licensed banks in 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980; if he will state in relation to (b) the amount paid to date in 1981; and the amount paid to each bank to date.

The Industrial Development Authority do not approve grants for banks. The IDA are empowered, under section 35 of the Industrial Development Act, 1969, to provide grant assistance for fixed assets which are leased from banks and may pay grants in respect of such fixed assets to the lessor. The total amounts paid to banks in respect of such leased assets have been as follows:- 1977 - £7.148m; 1978 - £6.827m; 1979-£18.135m; 1980-£16.421; 1981 (to date) - £19.046m. A detailed breakdown of payments made to individual banks is not readily available. This will be communicated to the Deputy as soon as possible. The administration of FEOGA grants is a matter for the Minister for Agriculture.
