asked the Minister for Finance the positions previously held by non-established civil servants appointed by him and his Minister of State since 30 June 1981.

The following are the relevant details in respect of non-established civil servants appointed to my Department since 30 June 1981 other than these (a) appointed as a result of competitions held by the Civil Service Commission, (b) arising in the normal course of promotions, and (c) appointed to posts listed as scheduled occupations in the First Schedule to the Civil Service Commissioners Act, 1956.

Mr. Peter Prendergast appointed as special adviser to the Minister for Finance previously held the post of General Secretary of Fine Gael. Mrs Eileen Grogan appointed as personal assistant to the Minister for Finance previously served as a secretarial assistant within the Fine Gael Party in Dáil Éireann. Ms. Deirdre O'Brien appointed as personal assistant to the Minister of State at the Department of Finance previously served as secretarial assistant with the Labour Party in Dáil Éireann. Mr. James O'Reilly appointed as personal assistant to the Minister of State at the Department of Finance was previously employed as a salesman in the private sector.
