Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Galway Garda Station.

139.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is his intention to provide a Garda station on the eastern side of Galway city, in view of the three industrial estates and the two banks which are located there and of the Garda concern that such a station be provided as a matter of urgency.

A team of officers of the Garda Síochána and the Department of the Public Service are engaged in an examination of how Garda manpower resources throughout the country can best be organised so as to provide the most effective police service possible. It is proposed that the policing arrangements in Galway and certain other large provincial centres will be examined in the near future and the question of providing a Garda station on the eastern side of Galway city will be considered in the light of whatever recommendations are made as a result of the proposed examination. It is hoped that the examination of the position in Galway will be carried out early in 1982 and decisions on whatever recommendations emerge will be made as soon as possible afterwards.
