Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Limerick New Garda Station.

152.

asked the Minister for Justice the up-to-date position in relation to the provision of a Garda Station at South Hill, Limerick City.

The South Hill area of Limerick City is at present policed from Edward Street Garda Station. This station is to be replaced as the accommodation there is inadequate to meet Garda needs and the station site is too restricted to allow for the necessary expansion. It is the advice of the Commissioner that the new station which is to be built should be located closer to the South Hill area and, with this advice in mind, the Office of Public Works is at present trying to acquire a suitable site. Negotations are in fact in progress in relation to a particular site and, if these turn out to be successful, the new station will be considerably closer to South Hill.
