Vol. 332 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Wexford New Schools.

359.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the building of a new national school at Duncannon, County Wexford.

Sketch-plans have been approved for a new national school at Duncannon and a grant has been sanctioned towards the cost.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that they await the submission by the reverend chairman of the local authority's planning permission. Lengthy delays occurred between 1975 and 1980, in relation to the site most suitable for the school. It is hoped, however, to be able to make final decisions very shortly, in the light of all the relevant factors and assuming that the planning permission is in order.

360.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on a new school at Good Counsel College, New Ross, County Wexford.

The position in relation to the proposed new secondary school at Good Counsel College, New Ross, is that my Department are awaiting notification from the school manager that certain technical amendments to the bill of quantities have been carried out. Following receipt of this notification, the question of authorising the project to proceed to the next stage, i.e., seeking of tenders, will receive immediate attention.
