asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) the subsidy provided for each main item in the Estimates provision of £65.2 million for 1982; (b) the rate of subsidy per unit e.g. one pint of milk and 1 lb of butter; and (c) the estimated effect on the consumer price index of each such item.

The amounts provided are £41.6 million for milk and £23.6 million for butter. The present rates of subsidy are:

Milk: Dublin Area — 3.97p/pint; Outside Dublin — 4.47p/pint.

Butter: 34.95p/lb, of which 12.43p/lb is paid from the budget of the European Communities.

The estimated effect on the consumer price index is 0.56 percentage points in the case of milk and 0.63 points in the case of butter.
