Appointment of Ministers and Ministers of State.

A Cheann Comhairle, b'áil liom cead a fháil chun a chur in iúl, mar eolas don Dáil:

(1) gur cheap an tUachtarán an 9ú lá de Mhárta, 1982, na Teachtaí a raibh Dáil Éireann tar éis comhaontú le mé d'ainmniú mar chomhaltaí den Rialtas;

(2) go bhfuil mé tar éis Reamon Mac Searraigh a animniú, an lá céanna, chun bheith ina Thánaiste;

(3) go bhfuil mé tar éis na Ranna Stáit a shannadh, an lá céanna, do na comhaltaí den Rialtas mar a leanas:—

Is iad seo na ceapacháin Airí Stáit a fhéadaim a fhógairt faoi láthair. Beidh tuilleadh ceapachán a bhfógairt agam chomh luath agus a bheidh deis níos fearr agam bhreithniú a dhéanamh ar dháilleadh cuí na bhfeidhmeanna idir na Ranna agus laistigh de na Ranna.

A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil,

(1) that, having informed the President that Dáil Éireann had approved my nomination of Deputies to be members of the Government, the President, on the 9th March, 1982, appointed them accordingly;

(2) that, on the same date, I nominated Ray MacSharry to be the Tánaiste;

(3) that, on the same date, I assigned the Departments of State to the members of the Government as follows:—

The Department of Finance

Ray Mac Sharry,

The Department of Agriculture

Brian J. Lenihan,

The Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism

Desmond J. O'Malley,

The Department of Foreign Affairs

Gerard Collins,

The Department of the Public Service and the Department of Labour

The Department of Transport and the Department of Posts and Telegraphs

The Department of Education

(4) that, on the same date, the President appointed Patrick Connolly, S.C., to be the Attorney General;

(5) that, on the same date, the Government appointed Deputy Bertie Ahern to be Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Defence; and

(6) that the Government today appointed the following Deputies to be Ministers of State as follows:

Deputy Barrett will be in charge of the Office of Public Works and Deputy Brady will have special responsibility for urban affairs.

These are the appointments of Ministers of State which I am in a position to announce now. I will be announcing further appointments as soon as I have a fuller opportunity of considering the proper allocation of functions as between and within Departments.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the proposed closure of Mogul of Ireland mining operations in Silvermines, County Tipperary.
