Vol. 333 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 4 (resumed), 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 1 and 2. Business will be interrupted at 3.30 p.m. to take No. 1, followed by No. 2, and the Order will not be resumed thereafter. By agreement the Dáil will sit later than 5.30 p.m. today and not later than 12 midnight to enable the Financial Resolutions, with the exception of the general Financial Resolution, to be concluded and allow item No. 2 to be disposed of. It is proposed that following the Budget Statement of the Minister for Finance and the statements of the spokesmen of the parties in Opposition the sitting will be suspended for 30 minutes.

I understand the Government want to introduce legislation dealing with rent-controlled dwellings next week.

When will I get a copy of the amendments proposed to the existing legislation? I presume the Government do not want to renew the temporary provisions and want to get through a substantive Bill.

I do not think another temporary Bill would stand up.

Perhaps not. When will we get the amendments or the new Bill, whichever is proposed?

Tuesday at the earliest.

We could give an indication today of what we are proposing.

I presume it is proposed to take Second Stage on Wednesday and the following Stages on Thursday and I will facilitate the Government if possible.

When is it proposed to bring before the House legislation required to give effect to the Taoiseach's commitment to acquire the 27-acre Port and Docks Board site.

The preparation of the legislation is in hand.

Has the Taoiseach any idea when it will be introduced?

It will be introduced as soon as it is ready. It is fortunate that a decision had already been taken by the previous Government to acquire this site and that helps us considerably.

Will it be introduced in this session?

The next session, certainly.

Thanks for the acknowledgement. I should like to inform the House that a copy of the signed and witnessed agreement between the Taoiseach and Deputy Gregory has been lodged in the Library and is available to Deputies.

I would make a slight correction to that in the interests of accuracy in the records. The agreement arrived at between Deputy Gregory and myself was between Deputy Haughey and Deputy Gregory.

(Cavan-Monaghan): By Deputy Haughey, in anticipation of becoming Taoiseach.

In view of the publicity given to the document agreed between Deputy Gregory and the Taoiseach, why is there such secrecy between Deputy Blaney and the Taoiseach?

It does not arise.
