Vol. 334 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kidney Donors.

21.

asked the Minister for Health if there has been a reduction in the number of kidneys being offered by donors for transplant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of kidneys offered by donors for transplant has fluctuated over the past few years from 60 in 1979, to 45 in 1980 and 54 in 1981. I understand that in the first three months of 1982 there were 19 kidneys donated.

The continuation of this trend for the remainder of the year should result in a sizeable increase in the number of kidneys offered for transplants.
