Vol. 334 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tallow (Waterford) Garda Strength.

234.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will ensure that there will be no reduction in the Garda manning level in Tallow, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The detailed deployment of members of the force is a matter to be decided primarily by the Garda authorities and the strength assigned to the various stations is reviewed from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances. The precise arrangements made for policing individual areas are made by or in consultation with the local Garda officers.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, arising from the need to re-deploy resources within the Dungarvan Garda District, which includes the Tallow area, it was decided in February to transfer a garda from Tallow to Lismore. The Garda authorities are satisfied that this arrangement makes the best use of available resources and that the police needs of the Tallow area are being adequately met. They have no proposals to reduce the existing strength of one sergeant and one garda at Tallow.
