Vol. 334 No. 3

Written Answers. - Post Office Money Collection Service.

412.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his attention has been drawn to a report (details supplied) of a statement by the Chief Executive of An Bord Poist at the IPU Conference in Westport regarding the possible collection by the Post Office of money for private firms; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the report to which the Deputy refers. While I do not consider that it calls for a statement from me, it might be worth while mentioning that the main theme of the speaker, namely the possibility offered by the widespread nature of the sub-post office system for the further development of agency services, is fully in line with the thinking of my Department and of the Postmasters Union in that regard.
