Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teachers' Childrens Allowance Scheme.

819.

(Limerick-East) asked the Minister for Education the allowance payable under the teachers' children's allowances subject to certain (details supplied) in County Limerick.

In accordance with arrangements for the elimination of marriage differentiation in teachers' pay which were processed through the Conciliation Council for Teachers, married women teachers became eligible for children's allowances subject to certain conditions and with effect from 31 December 1975. The teacher in question claimed and was paid the allowances due under these provisions, in respect of three children for the period ending 31 July 1980. She left teaching on 31 December 1980. Children's allowances are payable to her in respect of the period 1 August 1980 to 31 December 1980 but the requisite claim in respect of this period has not been submitted.

The person in question resumed teaching on 1 May 1981. The relevant regulations provide that persons entering or reentering teaching on or after 1 January 1980 will have no entitlement to children's allowances. Accordingly, the teacher in question is not eligible for such allowances.
