asked the Taoiseach whether there is provision for a statistical council in the Central Statistics Office under the relevant legislation; and, if so, whether one will be established before 31 December 1982.

While the comprehensive basic legislation concerning official statistics — the Statistics Act, 1926 — covered the possibility of establishing a statistical council, in the event no such council was established and there are not, at present, any plans to do so.
