Vol. 334 No. 7

Written Answers. - Army Barracks Value.

885.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will give the estimated present day value of each of the Army barracks in the Dublin area; when the valuation was made or if there are on-going valuations and how often they are made; and if he is aware of the undertaking given by one of his predecessors to have this information provided as indicated in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 84 of 18 May 1972.

The present value of the barracks in question is not known. My Department's adviser in regard to value of the property is the Commissioner of Valuation who has not undertaken an assessment of the value of any of the barracks in recent years. His advice as to the value of State property administered by his Department is normally sought only when the question of disposal arises. As the barracks are required for the use of the Defence Forces and will continue to be so required for the foreseeable future, their disposal is not contemplated.

There would be a disproportionate expenditure of public time and money involved in assessing the value of the barracks and I do not consider that this would be justified.
