asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority deputations he has received since he became Minister; and the additional allocation that each has received following the meetings.
Written Answers. - Local Authority Deputations.
I or my Minister of State have met deputations from 20 local authorities. The discussions took account of the value to these authorities of the measures taken by the Government to (i) limit increases in statutory demands on local authorities in respect of supplementary welfare and arterial drainage maintenance, and, (ii) reverse the decision of the previous Government in regard to the application to local revenue purposes of part of the proceeds of the sale of local authority dwellings. These two measures benefit the revenue accounts of local authorities by an estimated total of £10 million in 1982.
Allocations in respect of Environmental Works (Youth Employment) and supplementary allocations in respect of road works were notified to local authorities generally on 26 and 27 April 1982, respectively. The amounts of these allocations to the relevant local authorities from whom deputations were received are set out in the table below. In addition Cork Corporation were notified of allocations of £500,000 and £132,000 for sanitary services and itinerant halts respectively; Kerry County Council received sanction to a loan of £19,200 for Caherciveen Courthouse and Donegal County Council received sanction to £45,000 for Portelvin-Leenane Pier.
