Vol. 334 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Factories.

2.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the position of a factory (details supplied) at Ballygar, County Galway; and if there are any definite plans by the IDA to bring another industry to the town.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that negotiations are continuing with a company who are interested in taking over the Butte Knit factory at Ballygar, County Galway. I understand that the Authority have recently purchased an 8½-acre site at Ballygar which is being actively promoted for further industrial development.

3.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he proposes to instruct the IDA to obtain a replacement industry for a factory (details supplied) at Loughrea, County Galway.

Since December 1981, the Industrial Development Authority, in co-operation with the liquidator, have been investigating the possibility of take-over of the assets of the company in question for the purpose of continuing production. To this end, discussions are continuing with certain parties who have indicated some interest in acquiring the business. At this stage it would be premature to give any indication as to the likely outcome.

In addition to continuing their efforts to have the assets of the company taken over for resumed production, the IDA are actively seeking further new projects that would locate in Loughrea.
