Vol. 335 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

881.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received representations concerning the seriously incorrect telephone account sent to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if he is aware that complaints of this kind are becoming increasingly common; and the action he proposes to take in respect of cases which are shown to be incorrect.

Representations were received and were replied to on 26 April 1982 stating that the local and STD call charges on the accounts which issued since the provision of service had been checked and found correct. As the subscriber is apparently still dissatisfied, a comprehensive check of the line and associated engineering equipment is being arranged. The examination should be completed within the next few weeks and my Department will communicate with the subscriber then.

With increases in charges, somewhat more subscribers tend to query their local and STD call charges. All such inquiries are examined on their merits. In the small number of cases where overcharging is found to have occurred, the accounts are suitably adjusted.

882.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the steps being taken to increase the number of public telephone facilities in the Ballymun shopping centre, Dublin.

It is planned to provide four additional public telephones in Ballymun shopping centre.

883.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when public telephone kiosks will be provided in the following areas of Clondalkin, County Dublin; (a) Rowlagh Green; (b) Rowlagh Park; (c) Glenfield Estate; (d) Wheatfield Estate; (e) Liscarne Gardens.

It is planned to provide telephone kiosks to serve areas (a), (b), (c) and (d). It is expected that the kiosks will be erected about the end of this year or early next year.

The provision of a telephone kiosk to serve Liscarne Gardens is not considered warranted at present.

884.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo who requires this service so that he can expand his business.

Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that it will be possible to do so for about a year.

885.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the need for the provision of a telephone kiosk to facilitate the expanding population of Lower Rosses, Rosses Point, County Sligo; and if he will provide a kiosk immediately.

The provision of a kiosk at this location is not regarded as warranted at present and it is not proposed therefore to provide one there.

886.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that an interview was held recently for the appointment of a postman at Ballymore post office, County Westmeath, and that the person who was appointed already had a permanent job; and the reason the post was not given to somebody who was unemployed.

The person appointed to the position of temporary postman at Ballymore was regarded as the most suitable of the candidates nominated.
