The information sought is not yet available for 1982 but in 1981 the cost per person selected for appointment to the civil service (including the Department of Posts and Telegraphs) was £298. It is expected that, because of increased numbers of candidates and a reduction in the number of appointments, the figure for 1982 will be somewhat higher.
