I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to take Questions Nos. 647 and 648 together.

It will be necessary to carry out additional engineering work before telephone service can be provided at the applicant's business premises. It is unlikely that this work can be completed before the end of this year.

It has not been possible to trace an application for service at the applicant's residence. An application has now been recorded. A survey will be carried out to ascertain when it will be possible to provide service and the applicant will be contacted as soon as the survey is completed.

I am aware that there have been some difficulties with the new coin boxes in Bantry. These are being attended to.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the telephone kiosk, the income from which is to be guaranteed by Dublin County Council, will be erected at Colecot, Ballough, Lusk, County Dublin, in view of the fact that the council indicated their agreement to guarantee the income over three years ago.

The provision of a kiosk at Colecot Cottages was dependent on the completion of cabling work for the kiosk. This work has now been completed and it is expected that the kiosk will be provided shortly.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in reconnecting a telephone for a person (details supplied) in Bandon, County Cork, which was cut off some months ago and who has since discharged all outstanding accounts and in addition has paid a further £100 to credit on the account.

Provision of service at this exchange is restricted at present to priority applicants. The agreement in this case was terminated and in ordinary course, as a new applicant, he would not be given service at this stage. It has been decided, however, in the circumstances to re-connect the telephone. Service will be provided within the next few weeks when a new agreement has been completed.

A survey is being carried out to ascertain when it will be possible to provide service and the applicant will be contacted as soon as the survey is completed.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be installed for a person (details supplied) in Cootehill, County Cavan; and the reason for the delay in providing service.

It has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of the volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the Cootehill area. It is expected that service will be provided within about a year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in replacing two telephone lines to the Hill of Down exchange, Enfield, County Meath, which have been out of order for the last two months.

I assume the question refers to maintenance of the eight trunk circuits serving Hill of Down exchange. There is no record of two circuits being out of order for two months but there have been faults on one or more circuits on a number of occasions in recent months. Every effort is made to restore service as quickly as possible but delays can occur from time to time because of pressure on resources.

Automatic service for Hill of Down subscribers will be provided from two new digital exchanges at Ballivor and Broadford in about six months time.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is planned to provide a public telephone booth at Raheen Heights, County Limerick; if a booth has been sanctioned for this area; and if so, the reason there has been such a delay in providing it.

It has not been possible to provide the kiosk at Raheen Heights to date due to the volume of other engineering work in the area. It is expected to provide it later this year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will instruct the local branch of his Department to proceed with the installation of a telephone for a person (details supplied) in Holycross, County Limerick, as she is an invalid and has an invalid son and urgently needs service.

It is expected that service will be provided within about three months.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a person (details supplied) in Crumlin, Dublin 12, who had a telephone installed last July and who has been allocated a telephone number, will have the telephone connected.

Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that it will be possible to do so until early 1983.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if a mobile telephone exchange staffed by departmental staff will be located in Portumna, County Galway, as a matter of urgency until such time as this exchange is automated; and the date on which it is intended to introduce automation.

It is not intended to provide a departmentally staffed mobile telephone exchange at Portumna, County Galway, prior to the existing manual exchange being converted to automatic working which is expected in about 12 months time. Every effort will be made, however, to improve the standard of service for subscribers in the area in the meantime.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be restored for a person (details supplied) in Castleknock, County Dublin, whose phone has been out of order since 8 April 1982; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The fault, which is in the underground cable, will be repaired within the next few days. Because of the number of such faults, which require attention by specially trained staff, I regret that there has been delay in repairing them.
