Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Extensions.

702.

asked the Minister for Education when the proposed extension to Portumna vocational school, County Galway will commence; and if a metal workroom will be included in the extension.

Planning for the proposed extension to Portumna vocational school is at an early stage and it is not, therefore, possible to say when construction will commence. Provision for a metalwork room has been made in the schedule of accommodation.

703.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in sending out tenders (i) for an extension (three classrooms) to cater for special classes at Mallow Convent primary school and (ii) for extension to Scoil Íosagáin, Mallow, County Cork.

With regard to the extension of the convent primary school in Mallow, County Cork, it is understood from the Commissioners of Public Works that they expect to be in a position to report to my Department on costs etc. at an early date. When the report has been considered in my Department, the question of authorising the invitation of tenders will be considered.

With regard to Scoil Íosagáin, revised sketch plans for the proposed extension are being examined in the Office of Public Works prior to being submitted for consideration by my Department. It was necessary to revise the plans because of an increase in the schedule of accommodation. The invitation of tenders does not arise at this stage of planning.
