Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Crime Convictions.

960.

asked the Minister for Justice how many of the 89,000 crimes committed in 1981 for which convictions were obtained were committed by the same individual.

The Garda authorities say that the annual crime statistics do not show how many crimes, for which convictions were obtained, were committed by any one individual. Such information would have to be specifically compiled from records kept at local level and could only be provided by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and effort.
