asked the Minister for Justice whether he intends to establish a Garda station for the Donaghmede area, Dublin 13.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Question Nos. 973, 974 and 975 together.

The area of Donaghmede, the Donaghies, Grange Abbey and Millbrook Estate, Raheny, is one of a number of areas in and around Dublin where there is a local demand for a new Garda station. The difficulty about providing extra Garda stations, apart from difficulties associated with getting suitable sites and the high building costs involved, is that manning them absorbs Garda manpower which might possibly be used more effectively on patrol duty in the area.

The area referred to is at present serviced by Coolock and Raheny Garda stations and it is intended to allocate a number of additional gardaí to these stations at the earliest possible date. This will provide a better Garda presence over the whole area covered by these stations and may obviate the need for a separate station in the Donaghmede vicinity. The situation, however, will be kept under review to see whether the measure which I have outlined will adequately meet the police needs of the areas in question.
