Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Drainage Works.

465.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to commence drainage work on the River Lennon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not in a position to say when the River Lennon catchment will be considered for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The drainage programme is proceeding on the basis of settled priorities and it is likely to be many years before the Lennon is reached for consideration.

466.

asked the Minister for Finance the up-to-date position of the River Suir on the priority list of catchments being considered for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945; and when work is due to commence.

467.

asked the Minister for Finance the position of the Rivers Nore and Suir on the priority list of catchments being considered for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945; and when work is due to commence.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 466 and 467 together.

The Suir catchment is No. 15 on the priority list of major catchments and has been reached in the drainage programme in so far as it has been surveyed and some work on the design of a scheme has been undertaken. However, I am not in a position to say when the design will be completed or when a scheme might commence.

The Nore catchment is No. 18 on the priority list of major catchments. At this stage, I could not say when the Nore might be reached in the drainage programme.
