Written Answers. - Schools Grants Payment.

478.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that a large amount of money is still overdue to Mary Queen of Angels National School, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, in respect of work approved and done in 1981; the amount of money now outstanding; and when it will be paid.

The Department of Education sanctioned a grant in July 1980 towards the cost of specific works at Mary Queen of Angels' National School, Ballyfermot, Dublin. When the final account was received from the architects who were engaged by the chairman of the board of management of the school it included the cost of additional work which had been carried out without prior approval.

A sum of £8,500, representing the approximate balance of grant payable in respect of the approved works, will be paid in the next few days.

A grant has been requested by the chairman of the board of management in respect of the additional items and the matter is being considered by the Commissioners of Public Works in consultation with the Department of Education.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a £600 grant has not been paid to the board of management of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, for the replacement of a furnace at the school which was damaged by frost three years ago and which has been approved for payment.

A grant was sanctioned by the Department of Education in January 1981 in respect of the installation of a boiler at Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny.

An instalment of £500 has been paid to the chairman of the board of management of the school and the balance of grant will be paid when the work has been inspected and found to be satisfactory. There has been some delay in this case due to the shortage of professional staff in the Office of Public Works.
