Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Animals Compounds.

522.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will bring the price of compounds for animal use under the umbrella of the National Prices Commission and prevent price increases which have been occurring over the last number of years without any consultations with farmers throughout the country.

The price of animal compounds already falls within the area of scrutiny of the National Prices Commission. The price of compounds is subject to comprehensive monitoring on a continuous basis by the commission. These arrangements were introduced following consultation with farming organisations and there is regular contact with representatives of the farming community in the matter. The results of the monitoring exercise have not yielded evidence of unwarranted price increases within the animal compound sector.
